My Favorites Of 2008

Uh, so I was looking around and I realized...I haven't written a damn thing on this blog yet. I mean, aside from Fortune's great introduction, there actually hasn't been any text on here at all. So I've decided to list my favorite songs from 2008. These are the songs that I'ma probably have blasted for life so here goes...

10. Ya Heard Me- B.G feat. Lil Wayne, Juvenile & Trey Songz (Too Hood To Be Hollywood)

This song is what I had blasted whenever I had to do anything that involved getting hyped whether it was music, working out, basketball, whatever. Between B.G spitting flames, the Hot Boyz reunion factor and Lil Wayne absolutely ripping this song to shreds, this song will probably be on any hype playlist I assemble forever.

9. Lollipop (remix)- Lil Wayne ft. Kanye West (The Carter 3)

The original Lollipop defintely got consideration, seeing as it is to me the first song to come out with absolutely no verses and just a string of hooks that flowed so well with each other that nobody noticed the difference. This version, however is my favorite because of Kanye's verse, which took the song to another level.

8. I Like The Way She Do It- G-Unit (Terminate On Site)

"Dismiss a ho bitch, leave me now." Whenever 50 sings its always classic and throw in classic verses by the entire Unit, and this song just blast at any party for a long time.

7. Dey Know (remix)- Shorty Lo ft. Ludacris, Young Jeezy, Plies & Lil Wayne (Shorty Lo)

This song absolutely shut shit down this year. Every verse was memorable and Weezy F. delivered his best verse to date.

6. Onslaught- Slaughterhouse

As many probably already know, I'm a big fan of Joe Budden and the fact that they assembled this monster free agent squad was probably one of the best moves of 08. Everyone showed up and hopefully this can translate to a whole album or at least a mixtape.

5. My Life- The Game ft. Lil Wayne (L.A.X: The Los Angeles Times)

Game took his lyrical game to another level with this song. Along with his meaningful, reflective lyrics and the great hook by Weezy, the accompaning video was good and even came with a Young Buck cameo.

4. Put On- Young Jeezy ft. Kanye West (The Recession)

2008 was the year of the Auto-Tune and this was the primary example of everything good about it. Young Jeezy delivered a street anthem, but it was again Kanye who takes the cake on this with the Auto-Tune, while defintely delivering the verse of the year on this.

3. Go Hard- DJ Khaled ft. T-Pain & Kanye West (We Global Now)

The song is pretty self-explanatory. T-Pain kills it and Kanye takes any criticism from this year about his singing and just "fucks the beat up so bad, won't nobody get up on it." Easily the most hype song of '08.

2. Heartless- Kanye West (808's And Heartbreak)

Kanye has defintely taken over my countdown. As if Put On wasn't good enough, he again took Auto-Tune to a different level. He is delivering lyrics showing his heartbreak and pain in a clever way and enhancing them with the vocoder as well as exploring a different space with his beatmaking, and the same goes for the entire album. Great song.

1. Swagga Like Us- T.I ft. Kanye West, Jay-Z & Lil Wayne (Paper Trail)

I could have defintely put this song here just based off the names of people who are on it, but everyone shows up and brought back the debates over "who's verse is better" that have been missing in hip hop since the early 2000s. The sample is great and this song has sprung about a million remixes including ours =).

I'ma do an honorable mention just because I feel like these songs should get as much recognition as all the other ones. So in no particular order...

  • Ransom- Drake ft. Lil Wayne
  • Can't Believe It- T-Pain ft. Lil Wayne
  • One More Drink- Ludacris ft. T-Pain
  • Love In This Club- Usher ft. Young Jeezy
  • Won't Let You Down (remix)- Chamillionaire ft. Houston All-Stars
  • Brooklyn Girl- Charles Hamilton
  • Foreign Exchange (Back To America)- Mike Milan & Skriptz
  • Don't Mean Shit- R.O.B & A!R Raid
  • Slaughterhouse- Joe Budden ft. Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5'9 & Nino Bless
  • Jockin Jay-Z (Dope Boy Fresh)- Jay-Z
  • Get My Swag On- Soulja Boy Tell'Em

I probably forgot something but there you go.
